Thank you all for coming to view my website.
So, a little about me. First of all, I am, and always have been, an avid book lover. According to my mother, I came home crying from my first day of kindergarten because I hadn’t learned how to read yet. The animated movie The Last Unicorn was my first foray into fantasy. Both it and The Labyrinth greatly shaped my childhood.
While I do mostly read fantasy, I do enjoy some non fantasy novels, as well, and am just getting into some sci-fi. Some of my favorite authors include Jane Austen, JRR Tolkien, Jim Butcher, Laura Resnick, Sarah Douglass, Melanie Rawn, Peter S. Beagle, and Dostoevsky.
When I was 9, I wrote a story for a class project about Native Americans, and I enjoyed the experience so much that I decided then and there that I would become an author. I’ve tried writing different genres, but always go back to fantasy, where I feel most comfortable. Most of my writing tends to be more traditional high fantasy with magic and swordplay. At the same time, I try to stay away from more traditional Tolkien fantasy races.
For the more boring stuff, I was born in rural Illinois but raised in Central Florida (between Daytona and Orlando). I lived in Nebraska for a few years after I got my bachelor’s degree before fleeing back home to Florida, and then moved to Alabama in 2010. I played French horn in middle and high school, an instrument that I dearly love to this day. I have a BA in sociology, with minors in psychology and creative writing, from Flagler College. And, because I love collecting degrees, I also have a MA in journalism from Fullsail University and a MS in human nutrition from the University of Alabama. I have worked as a social worker, a photographer, and currently as an administrative assistant at a local television station. I plan to become a registered dietitian in the near future.
In addition to reading, I also greatly enjoy gaming. I am a die hard fan of the Mass Effect video games, and I live for table top role playing games. My dad taught me to play D&D, 2nd edition, when I was a teenager, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I still play 2nd edition to this day (you can pry THACO from my cold, dead hands), as well as GURPS. Additionally, I love to cook and bake. I find baking to be very stress relieving, and have a tendency of baking in the middle of the night.
Please stay tuned for news about my upcoming book, Hope’s Shadow, book one of Stars Fell First!
